Callan Institute, St John of God Community Services, is delighted to share information on 2 modules which are available as part of our partnership with University College Dublin this Summer.

 

Namely, Multi-Element Behaviour Support and Identity Sexuality Mortality and Trauma.

 

These modules are part of the MSc in Disability and can also be taken as standalone CPD modules or as a micro-credential, namely, A Professional Certificate in Multi-Element Behaviour Support (10 ECTS at Level 9) and a Professional Certificate in Identity Sexuality Mortality and Trauma. (10 ECTS at Level 9).

 

Module information:    

Multi-Element Behaviour Support: This module introduces the student to a biological, psychological, social and environmental understanding of behavioural support needs for individuals with disabilities. Informed by a Human Rights Based Approach the Multi-Element Behaviour Support Model will be covered. The student will develop their competencies in working collaboratively with assessment methods, intervention design and writing of a multi-element behaviour support plan along with implementation and evaluation techniques included in this model. Legal, ethical, risk and decision making are all explored in the context of relevant legislation and local, national and international policies. This module may be of interest to people working in the area of behavioural support or for those wishing to advance their studies in this area.  

 

Identity Sexuality Mortality and Trauma in Disability: This module introduces theoretical debates, issues, narratives, concepts and current constructs on identity, sexuality, mortality and trauma for individuals with disability. Identity formation is explored using several models to aid understanding which is then used to consider disability support and representation in society. A broad definition of sexuality informs current perspectives as they relate to the expression, support and celebration of sexuality and sexualities. Trauma, loss, bereavement and dying through a disability informed lens is explored. This module may be of interest to people working in the area of Personal Plans and person-centred plans with a particular interest in supporting the themes of Identity, Sexuality, Mortality and Trauma for individuals with disabilities or for those wishing to advance their studies in this area.  

Each module will be delivered in person on the UCD Belfield Campus over 12 weeks, every Tuesday from 21^st May 2024– 23^rd July 2024. 

 

What is the difference between completing a module as a CPD module or as a micro-credential?

 

 

The CPD option enables students to attend class, take assignments, and exit with a Certificate of Attendance from the UCD Centre for Disability Studies.

There is no entry requirement for these modules as they are offered by the UCD Centre for Disability Studies to expand the reach of our student base to those who may not reach the entry criteria for a university award. Each module is approximately 30-40 hours on campus tuition. Continuous Professional Development - UCD School of Psychology

A micro-credential module enables students to develop targeted knowledge and skills, for personal and professional growth, through a quality-assured, university framework.

When a student completes a UCD micro-credent they earn university credit in the form of ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System). The ECTS framework is globally recognised, helping individuals to move between courses, colleges and even countries and have their academic qualifications recognised. ECTS allows credits taken at one higher education institution to be counted towards a qualification studied for at another.

The entry requirements for micro-credential modules are as follows:

• Entry requirements are a primary degree with a minimum 2.2 classification (second class honours, grade two) or international equivalent.
• Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS 7.0 (no band less than 6.5 in each element), or equivalent.

The cost to attend a micro-credential module is €1035.
